Layton Invitational:

Wrestling starts at 1:00 on Friday and 9:00 am on Saturday.  The tournament will take place at the Legacy Event Center in Farmington,  151 S 1100 W.  Both the JV and Varsity will be at the event center.  This is a change from previous years.  I have not found any information regarding admission prices but in the past they have had individual tournament passes for about $20 as well as family passes for $50-60.     They will wrestle until 9:30pm on Friday night and then all day Saturday through the finals.  It is exciting to be able to have all of the wrestlers in the same building for the whole tournament.

  3. Build character and dedication at a high level to overcome all challenges in life.
  4. Develop leadership skills
  5. Develop teamwork skills

Attendance:

Wrestlers are expected to attend practice on time every day it is scheduled. Any unexcused missed practice will result in missing the next scheduled competition. If three or more practices are missed and unexcused, it may result in termination for the rest of the season. A coach must be contacted before the missed practice in order to be considered for excusal.

Practice Gear:

Wrestlers are expected to bring appropriate attire for wrestling including shorts, t-shirt, wrestling shoes, head gear, running shoes, and knee pads (optional).

Equipment:

Wrestlers will be provided with a wrestling uniform and warm-up suit at every competition. It is the wrestlers’ responsibility to use proper care of the equipment and return it, on time, in good condition. Failure to do so will result in a fine equaling the replacement cost of the item(s).

Behavior/Work Ethic:

  1. Give your best effort in every practice and competition.
  2. Be a good citizen.
  3. Show respect for others.
  4. Be a team player and have a positive attitude.
  5. Be a good student.

Dress Code:

All wrestlers are expected to dress in a professional manner for competition dual meets. A” Herriman Wrestling” game day shirt will be included in the spirit pack.

Grades:

U.H.S.A.A. and Herriman High School require that all student-athletes maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 with no more than one “F” grade in order to participate in athletic competition.

  1. Participation Fee= $125 (Required)

Register My Athlete:

Register My Athlete allows parents to register their athletes for sports online. The website is htpp://registermyathlete.com/schools/. Included in your packet are instructions on how to register for a sport.

Physicals:

All wrestlers are required to have a physical once a year. You may choose to use your own doctor or one will be provided to conduct a physical at a specific date and time for a small fee. Physical forms can be found online at uhsaa.org/forms.

Varsity Letter Requirements:

  1. Finish the entire season in good standing (eligible grades, good work ethic, behavior, attendance of practices and competitions).
  2. Earn 12 Varsity points in competitions.
  3. Participate in all fundraising activities and Team Events during the season.

*Note- Juniors and Seniors must only complete #’s 1, 3 and have competed since freshman year.

Hydration Testing:

In order to ensure wrestlers choose a safe weight to wrestle for their height and body type, the U.H.S.A.A. mandates a “hydration test” the end of the first week of the season. The Herriman wrestling program will provide transportation to the event on the required date and pay the $10 fee required for the initial test. A body fat percentage test will be administered to determine the optimum weight class for each wrestler. It is each wrestler’s responsibility to attend the test “fully hydrated” so they do not fail. If the wrestler fails the test, he must retake the test at his own expense on a later date specified by the doctor.

Off Season Programs:

As coaches, we highly recommend and encourage all wrestlers to stay active during the off season. Camps, clinics, practices and competitions are in full swing from late February until mid- July. A schedule will be provided at the end of the High School season with details of practice times, tournament schedules, and recommended camps. Any Wrestler who is determined to improve his skills, strength, conditioning and agility, should continue to work out year round.
