1. Jaron Jensen
2. Chandler Strand
It is difficult to just pick one wrestler of the week when the performances of so many wrestlers are outstanding. Kicking off the season with a dual meet against West Jordan followed by a 27 team tournament at Layton High School, both Jaron and Chandler matched each others performances win by win.
Jaron Jensen is a freshman competing at the varsity level at 113 lbs. His ability level in wrestling is far beyond his years as he has compiled a 6-0 record for the season. He pinned his opponent, a senior, from West Jordan and helped the team win by a score of 54-21. To cap off the week, Jaron place 1st in the 27 team Layton Tournament with a dominant performance as he won by a score of 9-1 in the finals on Saturday night.
Chandler Strand is a Junior at Herriman who is well known for winning the 4A State Championships last year. He is continuing his winning tradition to start this season by defeating his West Jordan opponent by a pin. His next accomplishment, on the list of many, consisted of a 1st place finish in the 27 team Layton Tournament, wrestling in an extremely tough weight classification at 120 lbs. Chandler also had a dominant performance in his final match of the tournament as he destroyed his opponent by a score of 17-5.
Wrestler of the Week
December 3rd – 8th
Dallon Burningham is a Senior at Herriman High who is known mostly for his accomplishments on the football field. However, in his first year of wrestling, Dallon has excelled on the mat as well. This week at the Royal Duals, Dallon won 4 out of 6 matches and helped the team to a 2nd place finish in the tournament. As coaches, we are excited to have Dallon as a member of the team as we look forward to his rapid improvement each week.
Drew Hale is a Junior at Herriman High with a bright future in wrestling. After qualifying for state last year, Drew has proven that he has the potential to place in state this year. He is a team player who wrestles in any weight class, even if it means wrestling kids much heavier than him. He is extremely dedicated both in school work and athletics and it paid off with a 1st place finish this week in the Royal J.V. Tournament. Drew dominated his competition by pinning every opponent he faced this week competing at 182 lbs.
Wrestler of the Week
December 10th-15th
1. Kenner French
2. Tyson Roberts
3. Leroy Dansie
The Herriman Wrestling Team is lucky to have highly skilled wrestlers competing in every weight class. Some weight classes have three or four wrestlers who battle every week for the starting position. For this reason, it is hard to choose just one “Wrestler of the Week”. This week we chose three wrestlers of the week based upon their skill, dedication to improve and their desire to win the tough matches.
Kenner French is a Junior with a record of 16-3. He placed 5th in the 27 team Layton Tournament, 2nd in the Royal Duals, and dominated his opponents in the Jordan and Olympus duals (5-0). Kenner wrestles hard, giving 100%. He is not afraid of anyone no matter what they have accomplished in the past. Kenner is a team captain who leads by example on and off the mat.
Tyson Roberts is a senior with a record of 14-4. When you watch Tyson wrestle, you immediately know he has more heart than any of his opponents. It doesn’t matter what the score is, Tyson gives 100% the entire match. Tyson placed 6th in the Layton Tournament, 3rd in the Royal Duals and this week he went undefeated in the Jordan and Olympus duals (5-0). Tyson is also a team captain who leads by example both on and off the mat.
Leroy Dansie is a sophomore with the heart of a champion and the strength of a Lion. His potential n wrestling is limitless and it showed this week as he went undefeated in the Jordan and Olympus duals (5-0). Leroy beat some very good varsity wrestlers this week with his speed, strength, skill and heart. Watch for Leroy as the season progresses to continue to improve and excel at the varsity level.
Wrestler of the Week
December 17th – 22nd
James Whittekiend is a senior at Herriman High with a varsity record of 8-2. He transferred from Missouri and has been an important part of the team, wrestling at 220 lbs. James was selected wrestler of the week for his outstanding performance against Riverton in “The Battle for the Belt” and a first place finish in the “Stallion Stampede Tournament”. James pinned all five of his opponents this week helping the team win both competitions.
T.J. Trujillo is a Junior at Herriman High with a varsity record of 21-6. Wrestling at 138 lbs, T.J. has pinned his opponents 13 times out of his 21 wins this season, making him one of the top 4 wrestlers on the team. This week, T.J. dominated his opponent in the “Battle of the Belt” against Riverton and placed 3rd in the “Stallion Stampede Tournament”. One of the most impressive things about T.J.’s performance this week was that he accomplished his third place finish with an injured shoulder. T.J. is extremely skillful and has a “Heart of a Champion”.
Lazaro Garcia is a Sophomore at Herriman High with a varsity record of 3-2 and a J.V. record of 11-1. He dominated his competition this week wrestling in the J.V. “Stallion Stampede Tournament” and earning 1st place. Lazaro is an exceptional young wrestler who has a bright future at the varsity level of competition. He is very competitive and always gives 100% in every match.
Wrestler of the Week
January 1st – 8th
Shane French is a freshman wrestling at 170 lbs. with a varsity record of 10-5. He is improving his skills every week and it paid off in the Jaguar Dual Meet Tournament this week as he helped the team beat Maple Mountain. Shane finished the tournament with a record of 4-2 and pinned his opponent from Maple Mountain even though he was losing by a score of 18-5. Shane wrestles every match giving 100% effort and this is why he is the wrestler of the week.
Justin Miller is a freshman wrestling at 113 lbs. He is an extremely hard worker with a great attitude every day. This week in the Jaguar Classic Tournament, Justin went undefeated with a record of 4-0. He improved his J.V. record to 13-6 for the season and has a promising future as a Herriman wrestler.

Wade French is a freshman with a record of 20-11 and is becoming one of the best wrestlers in the state. His excellent work ethic is paying off as he is improving every week. This week, Wade was dominant in his match against Murray High School and placed 8th out of 71 teams at 182 lbs. in “The Rumble” Tournament. The Rumble is one of the toughest tournaments in the country and he beat some very tough wrestlers to earn his very respectable 8th place medal.
Colton French is a freshman with a J.V. record of 19-6 and a varsity record of 3-3. At 132 lbs., Colton is excelling in a very tough weight class. He is a very dedicated wrestler who continues to improve every week. This week, Colton dominated his opponent from Murray High School and placed 5th in the J.V. Rumble tournament. As coaches, we are proud of and expect great things from him in the future.

Layton Tournament Results
The Layton Tournament has a reputation of being one of the toughest Tournaments in the State every year. Finishing in the top 10, as a team, and medaling in the top 6 individually is a huge accomplishment. With an extremely young team, Herriman had an outstanding team performance in 2012 finishing 6th out of 27 teams and only 6 points out of 3rd place. Each member of the Varsity team contributed to this outcome through their dedication of time and effort and it showed in their performance.
